Terms of sale
These terms cover buying Reel Studio from Curate Technologies LLC ("we", "us"). By completing a purchase you agree to them.
1. What you're buying
Reel Studio is a desktop app for Mac and Windows that edits talking-head videos into short-form reels. Its source code is open source under the MIT license, published on GitHub. The MIT license governs the source code and these terms don't limit it. Your purchase funds development and covers the ready-to-run installers, updates and email support described below.
Reel Studio includes third-party open-source components. Each keeps its own license, and these terms don't limit your rights under those licenses. They are listed, with their source code, on the open-source parts page.
2. The two plans
- One-time purchase, $99. A perpetual license to use Reel Studio, plus every 1.x update we release. There is no recurring charge. Major versions after 1.x may be sold separately.
- Monthly plan, $20 per month. Includes the updates we release while your subscription is active, and support. It renews automatically each month and charges the card you paid with until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from the billing link in your receipt email; cancelling stops future charges. After you cancel, updates and new download links continue until the end of the month you've paid for, and the version you have installed keeps working.
Prices are in US dollars. Taxes may be added where required.
3. You bring your own AI
The AI editor runs on your own AI subscription: a paid Claude plan (through Anthropic's Claude Code app) or a paid ChatGPT plan (through OpenAI's Codex app), or an API key you supply. That subscription is not included in the price, is billed separately by its provider, and is governed by that provider's terms. Its availability, limits and pricing are up to that provider, not us. Reel Studio works without an AI connected, with fewer features.
4. Refunds
You can have a full refund within 14 days of purchase, no reason needed. The details are in the refund policy.
5. Your content
Your videos, music and edits are yours. Reel Studio processes them on your computer. You're responsible for having the rights to the footage, music and pictures you use and post, including pictures the app finds through public image search, which carry their own licenses.
6. Support
We provide help by email at support@getreelstudio.com. We'll do our best to answer promptly, but we don't promise a response time.
7. No warranty
Reel Studio is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, except where the law doesn't allow them to be excluded. We don't promise it will be error-free or work with every video, computer or AI provider. Keep copies of anything important.
8. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or revenue. Our total liability for any claim about Reel Studio is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be waived.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before either of us starts any legal action, we agree to try to resolve the dispute by talking it through, and then by mediation.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. Changes apply to purchases and renewals after the date at the top of this page. If we change the monthly price, we'll tell you by email before it applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
