Privacy policy
This policy covers this website, your purchase, and the Reel Studio desktop app. Reel Studio is sold by Curate Technologies LLC ("we").
The short version
- There is no Reel Studio account.
- The app sends no analytics, telemetry or crash reports to us or anyone else.
- Your videos stay on your computer, unless you send parts of them to your own AI provider through the editor.
- We only learn what Stripe tells us when you pay.
This website
This site is plain pages with no cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts. It is hosted on Cloudflare, as is the download server (dl.getreelstudio.com); Cloudflare may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses) under its own privacy policy. The download server's request logs record the full address of each request, including your download link, and are kept for up to 7 days. To slow down abuse, the download server also counts requests per IP address; those counters are deleted after at most 2 hours.
Your download link. After you pay, Stripe sends you to our thank-you page, which asks the download server to confirm the payment and answers a download link. The link carries a signed code that names your purchase (Stripe's checkout session), not you. We keep a record of the purchase: that session id, the plan, Stripe's customer id, when you bought, when we recorded it and when we emailed your receipt, and a keyed hash of the email you paid with (not the address itself), so we can send you a fresh link when you ask. The thank-you page remembers the code in your own browser's local storage so you can fetch new versions later; clear your browser storage to remove it.
When you buy
Payments are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your card details and billing information under its own privacy policy; we never see your full card number. From Stripe we receive your name, email address, billing country, what you bought and your payment history with us. We use that to send receipts, handle refunds and subscriptions, answer support requests and keep the records the law requires. We don't sell it or use it for advertising.

You bring the AI
Reel Studio's AI editor runs on your own AI subscription: a paid Claude plan through Anthropic's Claude Code app, or a paid ChatGPT plan through OpenAI's Codex app. AI usage isn't included in the price and counts against your plan's limits.
Your account, your keys. By default Reel Studio drives the Claude Code or Codex app you've installed and signed in to yourself. That app handles its own sign-in, and Reel Studio never asks for, reads or stores that login. If you choose to paste an API key instead, the key is stored only in your computer's secure system storage and sent only to the provider it belongs to.
What the app does on your computer
Transcription, cutting, captions, music mixing and rendering all run on your computer. Your videos and songs are never uploaded by Reel Studio. Send to Phone copies a video to your phone over your own Wi-Fi network.
Everything the app sends over the network, and why
- Update check. At most once a day, a request to our download server (dl.getreelstudio.com, run on Cloudflare) to see if there's a newer version (versions before 0.1.4 also ask GitHub's public releases list if that fails). It sends no account, cookie or ID. You can turn it off in Settings. Nothing is downloaded or installed automatically.
- Speech model, on first run. A one-time download of the speech-recognition model from Hugging Face.
- Pictures and icons, when the editor asks for them. Searches for b-roll pictures and brand icons go to Openverse, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, Wikipedia, TVmaze and jsDelivr (Simple Icons). They carry the search words and nothing else.
- Links. If you paste a link to a picture, video or song, the app downloads it from that site. If the editor names a website or app in your reel, the app may take a screenshot of that public page.
- Your AI provider, only when you use the AI editor. Your Claude Code or Codex app sends Anthropic or OpenAI what the editor needs: the transcript with word timings, the project settings, a few still frames from a preview, your notes and style rules, and one small still of anything you attach to a note. If you pasted your own API key, the same goes to the Anthropic API or the compatible server you set up yourself.
- Setup, only if you click install. The official Claude Code or Codex installer, downloaded from Anthropic or OpenAI.
Nothing else is sent. There is no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reporting. With no AI connected, nothing goes to any AI provider.
What Anthropic, OpenAI, Hugging Face, GitHub and the image sites do with requests they receive is covered by their own privacy policies.
Children
Reel Studio is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing support@getreelstudio.com. We may need to keep some payment records for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
